NSO Class 5: Syllabus, Pattern and Practice

30 Aug 2026 · Fuuvix Team ·nso class 5 science olympiad sof syllabus

NSO Class 5 is a good first olympiad for many students. It builds on the Class 5 school science syllabus and adds a reasoning section and a harder Achievers section. This guide covers what the Class 5 paper tends to include and a four-week way to get ready without cramming. Confirm current specifics on sofworld.org, as the pattern changes year to year.

What Class 5 tends to cover

NSO Class 5 draws on standard Class 5 science: topics commonly include plants and animals and their adaptations, the human body and health, food and nutrition, our environment, natural resources, matter and materials, force and energy in simple forms, and the Earth and beyond. Use your own school syllabus (CBSE, NCERT or ICSE) as the reliable list.

How the paper is built

Expect logical reasoning, science on the class syllabus, and a higher-order Achievers section. For a Class 5 student, the reasoning section is often the most unfamiliar part, so a little regular practice on patterns and sequences pays off.

A four-week plan a Class 5 student can finish

  • Week 1: strengthen the current school chapters. Learn each properly, then explain it aloud from memory.
  • Week 2: add short daily reasoning practice, ten minutes is enough at this age.
  • Week 3: start a mistake log and do chapter quizzes to find weak spots.
  • Week 4: mixed practice across topics under a gentle timer, and re-work every question in the mistake log from scratch.

Keep sessions short. Twenty minutes a day, five days a week, beats one long session, and it is far more sustainable alongside school.
